Scaling Polishing

Scaling removes the hard tartar which forms on your teeth like scale inside a kettle. You can’t remove it just by brushing your teeth. Scaling also removes trapped food and plaque containing millions of germs, which can cause tooth decay and gum disease. Stains from coffee, tea, cigarettes or red wine are also cleaned away when your dentist polishes your teeth.

Root Canal Treatment

Root Canal Therapy or Endodontic Therapy is a dental procedure, performed with local anesthetic, which involves the removal of the nerve inside of the tooth because it has become irreversibly damaged or infected. This is usually due to the entry of bacteria into the center most part of the tooth called the dental pulp (nerve).

After the tooth is “numbed”, a small opening is made into the pulp chamber. The canals are located and measured, so they can be cleansed and shaped using a series of hand files and engine-driven instruments.

The canals are filled with a rubber-like material called gutta-percha and the opening is sealed with sterile cotton pellets and a temporary filling.

Cosmetic Enhancement

You could have one or more of the following problems:
With a smile makeover you can get an amazing smile. But what is it and what does it take to get there? A “Smile Makeover” refers to a combination of esthetic dental procedures that enhances the beauty and appearance of the smile, at the same time maintaining the harmony of Nature.
Therefore you may need a combination of procedures to achieve that special look. Here is a shortlist of problems and their solutions:

  1. Discolored or stained teeth or metallic fillings can be corrected with composite fillings and tooth whitening.
  2. Chipped or broken or worn teeth can be solved with bonding by veneers.
  3. Crooked or overlapping teeth can be corrected either by braces or veneers.
  4. Gaps can be closed with resin fillings, veneers and braces.
  5. Gummy smiles are corrected with laser gum contouring.

The first step is a total examination by a cosmetic dentist. The “style” of your smile should be visualized, discussed and planned. It is to be determined if you need one or more procedures. The possibilities are endless. Imagine, in a short time you can have a makeover that enhances the beauty of your smile, correcting almost any problem. Even the most extreme procedures can be completed in 3-4 easy visits.

Fixed Teeth Replacements and Implants

Crowns(Caps)

Procedure whereby a tooth is covered to strengthen a damaged tooth. The tooth may have been damaged by decay, or have a previous restoration that has fractured. Root canal teeth are also crowned if sufficient tooth is missing or if the dentist feels that the tooth will last longer by protecting it with the crown. There are several types of crowns. The dentist and patient will make the decision as to which one is best for patient. This involves several phases. One in which the dentist prepares the tooth and a temporary is fabricated and used to temporize the tooth while the crown is being processed in a dental laboratory. The second step is inserting the permanent crown. Failing to return to have the permanent crown placed can cause damage to the underlying tooth due to weakness and poor fit of the temporary crown.

Bridges

tooth bridges

Bridges are tooth replacements attached to adjoining natural teeth. They are best for people with a few missing teeth, either the front or the back teeth. To replace missing teeth with a bridge, the adjoining teeth must be healthy and have good root and gum support. The two common types of bridges are the fixed bridges and the bonded ( Maryland ) bridges. Depending on the aesthetic requirements of the patient the bridge can be made of all porcelain, porcelain fused to metal or metal only. In a conventional bridge one or more artificial teeth are set between crowns placed over adjoining natural teeth. This procedure normally takes two to three visits. A bonded bridge consists of one or more artificial teeth between metal wings. The anchor teeth are reshaped slightly, and the wings are bonded to them using resin cement. However, there is a greater chance for these to de-bond as compared to the conventional bridges.

Implants

The Solution: A dental implant is a fixture used to replace the root of a tooth. The implant is surgically placed in the jawbone and a porcelain tooth is attached to the top of the implant, creating a natural looking and undetectable replacement for the missing tooth. In the event that more than one tooth is missing, several implants may provide a base for a series of artificial teeth known as a fixed bridge (see fixed bridges.) Implants can even be used to secure a full set of removable dentures for people who have no remaining natural teeth. This can improve chewing ability by greatly increasing the stability and retention of the denture.

  • A missing tooth or teeth.
  • Potential bite and jaw joint problems from teeth shifting to fill the space The “sunken face” look associated with missing teeth.
  • Inability to chew efficiently.
  • Loose denture needs to be tightened.
  • Desire to replace a missing tooth or teeth by means other than a bridge.
  • Unaesthetic smile that needs correction.

Dentures

Dentures are removable replacements for missing teeth typically made out of an acrylic resin which at times incorporate porcelain or metal for additional structural support. There are two main types of dentures. Complete Dentures and Partial Dentures are finely crafted, custom-fitted. If you properly maintain your dentures they will appear natural and provide a perfect smile. Additionally, dentures help strengthen muscles controlling your expressions that require the support of your teeth, rid you of pronunciation problems caused by missing teeth and aid in chewing.

Laser Dentistry

Laser Dentistry can be a precise and effective way to perform many Dental Procedures.

Dental Lasers provide precision that minimizes bleeding because the high energy light beam aids in the clotting of exposed blood vessels thus inhibiting blood loss. Procedures performed with soft tissue lasers may not require stitches.

Bacterial infections are minimised because the high energy beam sterilizes the area being worked on.

SOFT TISSUE LASERS used to remove the excess soft tissue growth painlessly, without the use of anesthesia .

Orthodontics

Orthodontics is the art of aligning the teeth and jaws to improve the patient’s smile and oral health. It is recommended that a child be seen by an orthodontist early on so as to form a baseline on development of the child’s arch and jaw. If braces are needed, placement usually occurs between ten and fourteen years old. The reason for this age is due to the fact that the mouth and head are still growing. Braces are worn depending on each individual case. The average length of time is between eighteen and thirty months which is followed by wearing a retainer for a few months to allow the tissues and bones to form around new tooth position. With braces, oral hygiene is more important than ever before. Due to the appliances and tiny spaces that they contain, food and plaque get trapped. Decalcification and cavities can form quickly so children must brush more often. The use of fluoride toothpastes and rinses are also recommended to protect the teeth.

Oral Surgery

An extraction is the removal of a tooth or teeth that is non-restorable, non-useful, or harmful to the patient. There exist many systemic precautions, do’s and don’ts that should be discussed by each individual and their dentist. Post extraction precautions include some of the following:

Pressure-bite on gauze or sponge over extraction site for at least 45 minutes after extractions.
No rinsing or mouthwash use for at least 24 hours post extractions.
Avoid any pressure that may dissolve clot such as using straws, smoking, etc.
Avoid brushing the first 24 hours.
Avoid alcohol for a few days

If bleeding persists, it is important to call your dentist. If sutures were placed after extraction it is important to return for removal of sutures and to evaluate healing. If swelling occurs, which often happens after extractions, it can be minimized by placing an ice bag as soon as possible on the side of the extraction for a 15 minute interval and can be repeated every 30 minutes for the next six hours post-operatively. Ice should be used only on the day of surgery. For pain and infections, your dentist may require oral pain medications and/or antibiotics.

Wisdom teeth X-rays- Wisdom Teeth or third molars sometimes are impacted because of lack of space in jaws. These teeth damage the adjacent teeth also. Therefore needs surgical extraction.

Advanced Gum Surgery

Periodontal treatment starts with prevention: regular cleaning and good hygiene habits are excellent precautions to take to avoid gum disease. The main cause of periodontal disease is bacteria in the form of a sticky, colorless plaque that constantly forms on your teeth; however, other factors can cause the disease or influence its progression. Scaling, root planing and local delivery of antimicrobials can treat and prevent the progression of the disease. In some cases, surgical therapy or cosmetic solutions may be necessary to correct the damage from gum disease physically and cosmetically.

Children’s Teeth

Pediatric dentistry is an age-defined specialty that caters to the dental and oral needs of children right from birth till adolescence. Our primary objective is to provide a comprehensive dental care with the purpose of preventive decay problems and also correction of minor orthodontic problems for these kids who are on a moving target and having a dynamic state of occlusion.

Baby teeth are no more considered for extractions unless that is badly broken down. They are preserved by procedures such as pulpotomy, pulpectomy followed by a restoration with stainless steel crown.

If the baby teeth are extracted space maintainers are fixed in the extracted area to prevent teeth alignment problems later. One other common problem we come across is Baby bottle tooth decay, where the children who are on prolonged bottle feeding suffer from a condition called as Early Childhood Caries wherein almost all the teeth in their mouth are affected with dental cavities posing severe problems such as pain, poor eating habits and general health etc. This condition is most often treated as full mouth rehabilitation under day care general anesthesia

Children with oral habits such as thumb sucking, bruxism, mouth breathing, tongue thrusting are corrected by counseling sessions, positive reinforcements, reminder therapy with removable or fixed appliances based on the necessity of the child. Prevention of teeth decay problems are performed by the use of pit and fissure sealants on the molars, topical fluoride application on all the teeth, positive reinforcement and motivation on proper tooth brushing, good dietary habits with periodic regular recalls either once in three, six or twelve months which is fixed based on the individual needs of the child.

Oral lesions and Cancer

Common superficial oral lesions include candidiasis, recurrent herpes labialis, recurrent aphthous stomatitis, erythema migrans, hairy tongue, and lichen planus. Recognition and diagnosis require taking a thorough history and performing a complete oral examination. There are some oral lesions which are cancerous. We examine and take biopsy of the tissues to check for the status (Benign or Malignant)
